Actor Val Kilmer has apologized to his northern New Mexico neighbors after he was quoted making disparaging comments about the community. San Miguel County commissioners invited Kilmer to a meeting Wednesday to explain comments published years ago in Rolling Stone and Esquire magazines. Val Kilmer says he shares residents' concerns "when you hear negative things about a place you love." After hearing from Kilmer and those upset by his remarks, commissioners approved a permit that will let him rent guest houses at his ranch. Commissioners say they hope everyone can put the situation behind them. But Rowe resident Abran Tapia says he doesn't accept Kilmer's apology. Tapia says he thinks someone needs to continue speaking up for those who were offended by Kilmer's remarks.

Academy Awards organizers are talking about moving up the date of the show, possibly as early as January. At a Tuesday meeting, the academy's board of governors discussed the idea of holding the Oscars earlier. Most recent shows have been held in late February.A statement Wednesday by the academy said the earliest any date change could take effect would be for the Oscars in 2012. A firm date of Feb. 27 already has been set for next year's 83rd Oscars. The academy statement said the idea is "being explored as a possibility.""There are a number of questions still to be answered and challenges to be addressed with regard to moving the show to an earlier date," the statement said. "The academy governors and staff have been and will continue to look into those questions and challenges. No decision has been made and there is currently no timetable for when a decision might be made."
Leslie Unger, spokeswoman for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, would not comment on why a date change was being considered.

When Donna Karan does resort wear, it's not so much about a mid-winter vacation in St. Tropez as a sultry evening on the town in her favorite city. Thus, her in-between season collection, which she presented in a runway show in her New York showroom on Friday, June 4, was dubbed Holiday 2010, rather than "Resort" or "Cruise." With slinky silhouettes inspired by "the sensuality of a tuxedo," said her program notes, she opened with a "platinum" chainmail plunging v-neck halter paired with a graphic black and silver wrap skirt and lean tuxedo jacket. Later, the tuxedo look was softened into a pajama-like suit of white semi-transparent trousers and silky wrap jacket with strong shoulders and extra-long sleeves, an idea she repeated elsewhere, perhaps her interpretation of the oversized look of a borrowed men's jacket.

Lindsay Lohan's alcohol-monitoring bracelet got her in trouble Tuesday with a judge who doubled the actress' bail to $200,000. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Marsha Revel determined Lohan violated the terms of her release after a closed-door meeting with the actress' attorney and a prosecutor. Revel did not detail the violation, but said her decision was made after receiving "results" issued by a court-ordered alcohol monitor. District Attorney's spokeswoman Shiara Davila-Morales said it was an "alcohol-related violation," but did not have further details. A source familiar with Lohan's case told The Associated Press that the violation was reported after the "Mean Girls" star appeared at the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday night. Lohan was not present in court Tuesday, but several denials of wrongdoing were posted on the actress' Twitter account shortly before and after the hastily called hearing.

But the thing about kicking off a less-than-straightforward narrative like "Persons" is that the viewer most likely to get fully absorbed in the show, immediately looking for clues (why is the key in the Bible? Why is the hotel lobby playing "Beautiful Dreamer?" Will this be important next season?) is also the viewer who's been burned the most by such setups.

With the 35th anniversary of Steven Spielberg's classic blockbuster just around the corner, an NPR reporter set out to track down the mechanical beast that struck fear into the hearts of so many. In order to maximize their control over the creature, the "Jaws" filmmakers built three sharks for their 1975 movie. All created from the same mold, the sharks were dubbed "Bruce" after Spielberg's lawyer, Bruce Ramer. The gigantic metal creatures were 25-feet long and weighed hundreds of pounds. The heads alone came in at 400 lbs. apiece, with jaws the size of a small human.

Charlie Sheen, star of hit TV sitcom "Two and a Half Men," is expected to enter a new plea of no contest to assaulting his wife in Colorado last year and could spend up to 30 days in jail, a report said Tuesday. Celebrity website TMZ.com said Sheen, 44, will enter the plea to a misdemeanor assault charge and, with credit for good behavior, a possible 30-day jail sentence could be reduced to 17 days. A district attorney in Aspen, Colo., where Sheen was charged, told Reuters he could not confirm or deny the plea, and an attorney for Sheen said no deal had yet been reached. Charlie Sheen, the highest-paid actor in television, is due in an Aspen courtroom Monday to face a judge in the matter. The star of television and movies was arrested Dec. 25 for assaulting his wife, Brooke Mueller. She told police Sheen had pulled a knife on her when she threatened to divorce him. Both had been drinking at the time, and both later entered rehab facilities.

Jake Gyllenhaal may be cinema's new "Prince of Persia," but even he bowed down to the real king of Hollywood on Monday, May 17, as the film's producer Jerry Bruckheimer was honored at Grauman's Chinese Theater before the film premiered there. Bruckheimer, who has been one of the most prolific producers in the history of both film and television, placed his hand and footprints into the concrete as a who's who of Tinseltown looked on. There was a smiling Tom Cruise, seated next to Nicolas Cage, along with Bruckheimer's other favorite actors, including Billy Bob Thornton, Jon Voight, Sir Ben Kingsley, Tom Skerritt, Michael Clarke Duncan, Judge Reinhold, Jonathan Pryce, Kelly McGillis, and Gemma Arterton.

There's a telling scene early in "Sex and the City 2" when 52-year-old Samantha, played by 53-year-old Kim Cattrall, spots a gold, beaded bustier minidress that she thinks will be perfect for a big red-carpet moment. The saleswoman is the first doubter. "Is it maybe a little young?" she asks. Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda have fashion confidence like few others — on film or in real life. But the sequined armor these women wear along with their microminis, harem pants and stiletto heels suffers a few chinks over one issue: Do they dress their age? Samantha's friends question the minidress, too. But an even more important movie moment is when Samantha rocks the dress, putting conventionalists and teenager Miley Cyrus, who is on the same red carpet in the same dress, in their place.

Lindsay Lohan left court Monday with a heavy new piece of jewelry, but it wasn't her favorite kind of bling. Lohan sported an ugly, alcohol-monitoring ankle bracelet that came with tough restrictions on her probation that could cut into her career plans. The measures were ordered after Lohan angered Superior Court Judge Marsha Revel by failing to show up for a hearing last week in Beverly Hills and instead attended the Cannes Film Festival in France. Photos from Cannes showed the actress partying on a yacht into the late hours on the day she was supposed to be in court in Beverly Hills. A bench warrant was issued for her arrest then lifted when her lawyer posted bail and Lohan flew back to the United States over the weekend.

NBC has canceled "Heroes." The network also pulled the plug Friday on its two freshman medical dramas, "Mercy" and "Trauma." The network seriously mulled bringing back "Heroes" for a shortened final season to wrap up the serialized show, possibly as a two- or four-hour movie. In the end, given the fairly high cost of the drama, the show's consistently declining ratings and the number of new hour-long shows coming to NBC next season, the network decided the series wasn't worth an additional episode order. The show has long had a rocky relationship with its fans. Out of the gate, "Heroes" was a big hit for the network -- an ethnically diverse big-concept ensemble that performed well overseas. It was NBC's "Lost."But the show's writers struggled to keep the twisting narrative on track. Characters were killed off and resurrected with regularity. Narrative threads were started, then abandoned. Unlike "Lost," the show seemed not to be driven by central questions that needed to be resolved with a final season.

Actor Russell Crowe stormed out of a BBC radio interview after suggestions that he had made the quintessentially British legend Robin Hood sound Irish in his latest movie. New Zealand-born Crowe, who was raised in Australia, has been the target of criticism in the British media for his accent in the "Robin Hood" action adventure movie which opened this week with its world premiere held at the Cannes film festival. BBC radio arts reporter Mark Lawson said he felt his impression from Crowe's performance was that "Robin Hood was an Irishman who took frequent holidays in Australia." "You've got dead ears, mate -- seriously dead ears if you think there's an Irish accent," Crowe, 46, retorted in the interview, broadcast on Thursday.
